Partners
Partner with Laboratory 17
We cultivate microalgae, develop photobioreactor solutions and explore ways to obtain valuable compounds from biomass. We are looking for partners in production, ingredient development, research and market development. We suggest starting with a specific task and an agreed first stage.
Our initial proposal
A pilot on biomass for fucoxanthin
The pilot will use one culture: Nanofrustulum shiloi, which we cultivate under laboratory conditions, or Cylindrotheca closterium once a strain has been obtained and checked. We will agree on the material form, the analytical programme and the requirements of potential buyers.
- 01
One culture
N. shiloi or C. closterium — chosen during preparation, based on culture readiness and the buyer’s task. Identification of the N. shiloi isolate and its documentation are in progress.
- 02
Indicative duration: 1–6 months
This is the length of the whole programme, not of continuous output. The amount is set by a budget agreed before the start.
- 03
Outcome
Data on composition, output and costs, a trial batch of the agreed size, and grounds for choosing the next stage.
Extraction and purification of fucoxanthin are separate work packages. Batch composition is confirmed by analysis of that batch; published research findings are not transferred to it.
Ways to collaborate
Choose how you would like to take part
Each option has its own split of contributions and first-stage outcome. We prepare a detailed programme and terms after a substantive conversation.

Sales and distribution
Finding buyers and developing sales
We are looking for partners who can help us reach biomass processors and developers of natural ingredients. We will prepare materials and join technical discussions. Together we will define the target market, suitable companies and how we work together.
Suggest a market or an introduction- Who we are looking for
- Industry intermediaries, ingredient distributors and teams with verifiable access to relevant companies. If you simply want to introduce us to a company, no distribution infrastructure is required.
- Our contribution
- Up-to-date materials in Russian and English, technical answers, participation in negotiations, and agreed samples once ready.
- Partner’s contribution
- Specific contacts, arranging meetings, collecting requirements and supporting material evaluation. Territory, segment and tasks are agreed in advance.
- First-stage outcome
- A list of qualified contacts, meetings with relevant specialists, product requirements and next steps.
- Terms
- Introductions — unpaid or by separate arrangement; market research — on assignment; agency work — tied to an agreed event and calculation basis; distribution — once the product and supply capability are confirmed. Exclusivity is discussed separately, with defined territory, product and term.
Research collaboration
Research with a defined question
We invite research groups to study microalgae cultivation, composition and properties. We suggest starting with a defined question and a programme where contributions, methods and expected results are clear.
Propose a research question- Who we are looking for
- Research groups and laboratories working on biomass composition, pigment analytics, biological effects, processing and scale-up.
- Our contribution
- Cultivation and the engineering side to an agreed extent. The capabilities of a specific research contractor are confirmed separately.
- Partner’s contribution
- The research question, subjects and controls, methods, investigators, timeline and success criterion.
- First-stage outcome
- An agreed dataset, a protocol and an interpretation with its limitations.
- Terms
- The format is chosen separately: contract research, a joint programme or a grant proposal. Use of samples, data, publications and new results is agreed before work starts.
Cultivation systems and process development
Cultivation at a partner’s site
We discuss microalgae cultivation at a partner’s site. We start with the culture, the intended use of the biomass, the required output and site conditions. We assess whether our engineering practice applies and propose a sequence of trials and process preparation.
Discuss your site and process- Who we are looking for
- Owners of production sites and engineering companies that need a cultivation process for a specific culture. Spirulina, biomass for aquaculture and other cultures are separate projects.
- Our contribution
- Experience with gas-vortex photobioreactors and running cultures; an assessment of whether the approach applies.
- Partner’s contribution
- A description of the product, site, resources and planned scale; funding for an agreed engineering programme; operating staff.
- First-stage outcome
- An applicability assessment, initial requirements and a test programme. Possible next stages — a trial configuration, regime verification, design, start-up and training — are defined separately.
- Terms
- The first paid stage is a limited assessment and a specification. Supplying a unit, a licence, documentation transfer and support are not bundled automatically. Performance can be guaranteed only after trials and an agreed specification.
What we build on
Our facility and research collaboration
The team has premises for trial work, three photobioreactor cascades and freeze-drying equipment. We combine cultivation practice, engineering work and research collaboration. Our history, publications and facility are described in the About, Science and Technologies sections.
Principles
How we agree on terms
- The programme, budget and terms for using results are approved before the start
- Funding is tied to agreed stages and outcomes
- Paying for a pilot does not in itself mean acquiring equity, equipment or technology rights
- Equity, exclusivity and returns are not announced in advance: they are discussed separately once the project has been tested
- General information is open; budgets and protocols are shared on a substantive request; technology materials only to a separately agreed extent

Next step
Discuss a partnership
Tell us about your task and how you might be involved. We will discuss a suitable format, the scope of the first stage and working terms. If the interest is mutual, we will prepare a programme and budget.
Or write to info@laboratory17.ru
For partners outside Russia: we start with an online conversation and an exchange of requirements; a visit to the facility follows substantive interest and agreement on the scope of information. Sample transfer, payment and delivery options are clarified for each specific transaction.
